Once you’ve got the fire or fuel you are intending to cook with well on its way to getting hot, place the plate you’ll be cooking with over the source to heat it up, and, in preparation, put a light coat of vegetable oil with a high smoke point on the warming plate. Sunflower, canola, peanut or rice bran oils are some common options to use. This will ‘season’ them and in just a minute or two, you’ll be ready for cooking.
Care for your Wooshka’s grill & flat plates is no different than the rest of your Wooshka, the more care you give it, the longer it will last. So depending on what you’ve used them to cook, you can get away with an easy-clean, or you might need to add a little elbow grease. Regardless, it’s always good to ‘re-season’ each hot plate toward the end of every use and before storing. To do this wait for the bed of coals to begin to diminish and then apply a light coat of vegetable oil with a high smoke point (Sunflower, Canola, Peanut or Rice Bran Oil are some common options); as the appliance cools naturally it will season the steel.
When cooking with the Wooshka rotisserie, versatility is key. So, we start by putting the Wooshka Utensil Holder at its lowest mounting point on the side of the firebox to allow for more adjustability of the rotisserie should you need it. Then, if you need to adjust the height of the rotisserie, turn off the motor, put on some gloves, remove the shaft from the motor and place your roast and rotisserie shaft on the warming plate and adjust the height of the mounting brackets to suit your cooking needs.
To store your Wooshka rotisserie, simply clean it up as you would your other accessories and make sure it’s dry before packing away.
TIP: Remove the batteries from the rotisserie’s motor box so that they don’t wear down as fast.
The Wooshka Heat Bead Basket can be used for any number of cooking styles – as a briquette or charcoal tray, as a flame deflector with lava stones, as a bed for hickory chips to add a little smoke, or…? What’s more, the Wooshka Bead Basket has been designed to work with the Wooshka Wok / Camp Oven Adaptor, which works perfectly for cooking or baking with your Wooshka Camp Oven, as well as the Wooshka Rotisserie, delivering even more versatility to your cooks. So you see, there really is no limit to your Wooshka other than your imagination!
Once the Heat Bead Basket has fully cooled, safely dispose of the remnant ashes, give it a good dust-off and then place it back on top of your collapsed Wooshka firebox, after the legs and flue pieces have been packed away.
We’ve seen the hot water boiler used to make everything from mulled cider to a Korean hot pot, to poached fruit, or simply to keep a ‘cuppa’ ready at hand. And since the hot water tank gets hottest when the maximum amount of surface area is touching the side of the firebox, you can simply adjust your hot water tank’s temperature by locating it higher or lower for your needs – higher for boiling water, lower for warm water. Just use gloves and caution when moving to a new position.
CAUTION: Do not fill a heated hot water boiler with cold water. The sudden change in temperature can damage the tank.
Empty and dry the Hot Water Boiler before storing away. Simple as that.
TIP: In some cases and depending on your Wooshka set-up, the Hot Water Boiler will fit inside of the firebox for transport and storage.
The flue oven is a great way to warm or bake low-and-slow and will keep at a good temperature for as long as you keep the firebox alight. But like all wood-fired ovens, managing heat is all about patience and practice. So, while there is no exact science to heating your flue oven, there are a few things you can trial to see what works best for you.
First off, the flue oven requires the combination of hot, hot fire at the rear of the firebox, with the right amount of ‘flue-vacuum’ to force the hot air from the firebox thru the flue oven’s shell. Here’s our best tip for making the most of the Wooshka Flue Oven:
Once your entire Wooshka is cool, simply remove the Flue Oven, give it a once over with a clean damp cloth and dry before storing in its Carry Bag.
TIP: If over time you see that the glass on the Flue Oven door is getting tarnished, you can use any standard oven cleaner to remove any baked-on foods or smoke stains. Just follow their directions and you’re good.
